Robert Heath, creator of the mountaintop opera concept, was a cathedral chorister at Chichester in southern England. During this intense training he studied the piano and the horn. It was later, as a student of musicology, that he began mountaineering.

Contemplating the panorama then the night sky from a bivouac high up on a moraine above a glacier, he would feel in touch with the Cosmos. He understood the capacity of the Cosmos to inspire a performance: the artists to be more creative and the audience to be more receptive and reactive, so as to make each performance come alive.

While never losing touch with his musical roots and training, Robert pursued a career in television as a journalist and as an organiser of forums for the life sciences (BioVision and EuroBiO).

The seed sown as a young student in musicology rose thirty years later. The mountaintop opera, is rooted in Robert’s life’s journey, his values and passions.
